MechBoard64 was designed by MtnBuffalo of Breadbox64 to complement the reproduction
Commodore 64
parts currently on the market. If you're a C64 enthusiast, you know that you can buy brand new Commodore 64 cases, as well as new "reproduction" mainboards, chips and power supplies, etc., but so far
nobody
has been manufacturing new compatible keyboards. This meant that you were left to scavenge one from an original Commodore 64.
MechBoard64 provides an ultrahigh quality alternative, that exceeds the capabilities and specifications of the original C64 keyboard,
by a long shot
!
MechBoard64 fits
perfectly
into either the original Breadbin style case or the newer C64c style cases. It's even compatible with many alternative case designs, such as the Plexilaser Acrylic.
MechBoard64 is supported by
all
of the original C64 motherboards types (e.g., assy 250407, 250425, 250466, 250459, etc.), as well as many of the newer "reproductions" and "re-implementations", such as the SixtyClone, the Ultimate 64 and even the BMC64 (
BMC64 requires
a
keyboard & joystick breakout board
).
What's included:
Chose your own key switches from either CherryMX or Gateron, based on your preferences for performance, tension, tactile feel and "clickiness"
Professionally fabricated custom keyboard frame, which has been laster cut and bent to exact specifications, then powder coated for color, feel and durability
Professionally fabricated custom printed circuit board designed by MtnBuffalo
All surface mount electronics, data connection header pins and jumpers have been assembled by hand and fully tested
Key inserts that enable CherryMX switches to fit standard C64 keys
A 20 pin data cable, with female connectors
Additional parts are required to complete this build,
which are not included here

A set of Commodore 64 key caps from an original C64 keyboard (or from the CBMSTUFF indiegogo campaign)
"Costar" key stabilizer clips and rods for the Enter and Space keys
PLEASE NOTE: Because this is a custom order, parts will need to be ordered and delivered before the build, assembly and testing can commence.
Please expect a lead time delay of ~3-4 weeks from the time of ordering before the keyboard is ready to be shipped to you.
